Please take some time to read over a brief group description below....

The Campaign for Berkeley, Division of Student Affairs Campaign for Access and Student Life, Student Advisory Committee (CFBSAC)

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

As the Student Ambassadors of the Campaign for Berkeley Student Advisory Committee, we will serve as the ‘face’ and ‘voice’ of the scholarship campaign by promoting and embracing alumni-student relations, spreading the unconditional belief in the spirit of giving, and helping sustain the University’s accessibility and its prominent position in the nation as the leading learning public institution.

CFBSAC PROFILE

The CFBSAC was formed in Spring 2009 under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Harry LeGrande, Executive Director of Student Affairs Development Maryellen Himmell, and their student liaison. The group is composed of Student Ambassadors who are either scholarship recipients, or non-recipients who still feel the impact of philanthropy and scholarship aid. We realize that CAL is largely supported by alumni and private giving; scholarships and aid affect our educational experience, and lives as a whole, in drastic ways. What is the Campaign for Berkeley?

Yes, there's more to it than the various "faces on Sproul". The Photobooth Project, which is made to create a portrait of Berkeley, is only a portion of this crucial Campaign...READ ON to learn more...

In a nutshell, The Campaign For Berkeley is a landmark fundraising campaign that aims to raise $3billion---- in a wide-ranging effort to secure the University's status as the nation's preeminent public teaching and research university.

The CFB will raise private support to attract and retain the country's most distinguished faculty, expand opportunities for exceptional students, support research collaborations to solve world crises, and strengthen the campus's core mission to serve the greater good.

More than $1.3 billion already has been raised in gifts and pledges since the "quiet phase" of the Campaign for Berkeley began on July 1, 2005. The campaign will conclude on June 30, 2013.

The mantra of this Campaign is 'Thanks to Berkeley...". The theme of gratitude is the foundation of our efforts. We invite CAL students and community around the world to reaffirm its commitment to the campus by expressing pride and gratitude for this University.

SOME STATISTICS:

- The Campaign will help close the funding gap between UC Berkeley and its elite private peers...CAL's 2008 endowment= $2.8 billion, Harvard 2008 endowment= $36.9 billion

- Berkeley's students are some of the nation's BEST and BRIGHTEST....Entering freshmen in top 10% of their high schoool class: CAL =98%, MIT=97%, Harvard=95%, Stanford=89%

-Berkeley serves MORE students experiencing financial hardship than ALL of the Ivy League universities COMBINED.

- In order to continue attracting the most-talented and advanced-degree students to Berkeley, we must provide graduate funding packages comparable to those offered by our private-university peers.

- Rising tuition cost is NOT keeping up with the University's rising budget cuts.

CAMPAIGN GOALS

The University will raise $3 billion to support Berkeley’s students, faculty, research and programs. Approximately 43 percent, or $1.3 billion, of the goal already has been raised as of Fall 2008. The quiet phase of The Campaign for Berkeley began on July 1, 2005. The public phase runs for five years, ending June 30, 2013.
